The sideline hero of Tennessee’s Battle at Bristol win over Virginia Tech has reportedly decided where he will play football next season.

Former Volunteer quarterback Sheriron Jones will head to Independence Community College, according to National College Football Recruiting Insider Ryan Bartow. Bartow suggests Jones is planning on making a return to the FBS level after a year at the JUCO level. If this is indeed Jones’ plan, he will have two years left to play major college football starting in 2018.

Jones announced his transfer from the Tennessee program following the Vols spring camp. During Tennessee’s spring camp quarterback competition to replace departing starter Joshua Dobbs, the redshirt sophomore Jones fell behind junior Quinten Dormady and redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano. Jones has left the Tennessee program once before, during the 2016 offseason he temporarily transferred to Colorado, only to return to Knoxville a few weeks later.

Jones was a four-star quarterback recruit in the 2015 recruiting cycle. He completed only one pass in his career with the Vols. Arguably his biggest contribution to the team came last season, as he did his best to fire up the Tennessee offense after the slow start against Virginia Tech. According to the game’s sideline reporter, Jones was so upset, he had to be restrained by his teammates.

Whatever he said must have worked, as Tennessee ripped off 31 consecutive points after going down 14 early. The Vols would go on to score 45 total points before the Hokies added a meaningless touchdown in the game’s closing minutes of the 45-24 game.
