Much has been made about the involvement of fans and boosters in the Tennessee hiring process.

But a report from Clay Travis of Outkick the Coverage has taken that narrative to a new level. Haslam, who also owns the Cleveland Browns, is personally calling Tennessee lawmakers who were critical of the possible hire of Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano.

“You don’t make the Tennessee hire, we do,” Haslam said, according to Travis.

Travis did not name the lawmakers, but on Sunday, Representative Jason Zachary and Representative Eddie Smith, both of Knox County, issued statements to share their disappointment with Tennessee’s interest in Schiano.

Schiano’s connection to the Penn State Jerry Sandusky scandal is related to his alleged knowledge of Sandusky’s abuse of children. Many fans referenced this alleged involvement as a reason to not hire Schiano.
