Tennessee basketball is adding size to its frontcourt for next season.

JP Estrella, a 6-foot-11, 210-pound 4-star center prospect, officially pledged his commitment to the Volunteers Friday morning on CBS Sports HQ. Estrella elected to join Tennessee over programs such as Syracuse, Duke and Iowa.

Graded out as 247Sports’ No. 40 overall prospect in 2023, Estrella could be a difference-maker for the Vols early in his career. A native of Portland, Maine (Brewster Academy) the No. 7 center prospect visited Knoxville twice before committing. He joins a class that features 4-star forward Cade Phillips and 4-star guard Freddie Dilione.

During his junior season at South Portland High School, Estrella led the Red Riots to their first Maine Class A State Championship in 30 years. Last year, he averaged 20.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks per game. Following the season’s conclusion, Estrella announced that he would be transferring to The Brewster Academy for his senior season.

Estrella also is a member of the Under Armour circuit, playing for the AAU Middlesex Magic. Below are several clips of Estrella’s junior season with the Magic.

The Volunteers are currently ranked No. 8 on the latest 247Sports rankings.  Among all SEC programs, Tennessee ranks No. 2 in recruiting behind Kentucky. The Vols are also expected to host 4-star shooting guard Davin Crosby on an unofficial visit in October, according to Vols247.
