Tennessee chancellor Beverly Davenport comments on Sunday's Greg Schiano debacle
The Tennessee Volunteers made a horrible mess of their coaching search on Sunday, briefly hiring Ohio State DC Greg Schiano before public backlash forced them to tank the deal.
AD John Currie commented on the debacle on Monday morning, saying the school thoroughly vetted Schiano before making him an offer.
On Monday afternoon, Tennessee chancellor Beverly Davenport issued a statement on Sunday’s happenings, saying she regretted the events that transpired:
Statement from Chancellor Beverly Davenport from Senior Associate AD Ryan Robinson:
“I deeply regret the events of yesterday for everyone involved. The university remains steadfast in its commitment to excellence, and I look forward to John Currie continuing the search…."

She also threw her support behind Currie, as you can see, which is something Currie hasn’t gotten a lot of in recent days. Tennessee fans are fed up with Currie and the anger is reaching a boiling point.
If the Vols don’t land a big-name candidate in the coming days, it’ll be tough for Currie to survive this mess. What happens next remains to be seen, but it will be very difficult for Currie to find a top candidate after the mess on Sunday.
