The more the Tennessee coaching search drags on, the more embarrassing it becomes for the university and AD John Currie.

On Wednesday, it was reported that the Vols were nearing a deal with Purdue’s Jeff Brohm, but that appears to have fallen apart. That came a day after Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy turned them down.

So, who would actually take the job at this point? What about former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin, who is now at FAU?

Though it would have been a crazy thought at the start of this coaching search, Kiffin now has the support of the fan base. In fact, this Change.org online petition begging the Vols to bring Kiffin back has more than 1,500 signatures as of Wednesday evening.

It seems as if it will reach the 2,000 signatures needed to be sent to the Vols’ athletic department shortly. After the Greg Schiano disaster on Sunday, will the administration listen to fans this time around?

That remains to be seen, but if this search drags on any longer, Kiffin may indeed be getting a call.
