For the first time this season, Tennessee has shown up and taken care of business early against an overmatched opponent.

As crazy as it may seem, Chattanooga was talking trash all week, claiming they would turn Rocky Top into “Moccy Top” on Saturday. So far, that hasn’t been the case at all for the FCS team.

Ty Chandler got the Vols going from the opening moment of the game as the Tennessee running back took the kickoff back for a 58-yard return. Tennessee scored on that first possession thanks to a 13-yard run by Chandler.

Here is Tennessee’s first touchdown of the game:

On the next possession of the game, Tennessee held Chattanooga to limited yardage before forcing a punt.

Tennessee then blocked that punt and returned it for a touchdown.

You can see that play below:

On the next possession, Tennessee marched down the field and Jarrett Guarantano threw a touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings to give the Vols a 21-0 lead in the game with over nine minutes remaining in the game.

Yes, Tennessee should handle an overmatched Chattanooga team like this but the fact some were questioning whether that would happen or not this week goes to show that Tennessee took this game seriously. That’s not something that has been the case for the Vols at times this season.
