Tennessee got its most productive receiver back Friday when it reinstated Von Pearson.

Two days after the Knoxville Police Department announced charges will not be filed against Pearson following a sexual assault allegation, it appears that the University of Tennessee will lift its suspension.

Pearson still faced a related, unresolved student conduct case that needed to be cleared before readmittance was possible. Presumably, that case has been dropped as well, because Tennessee announced Friday afternoon that the receiver is back.

“There is insufficient evidence to sustain a criminal investigation,” Knox County district attorney Charme P. Allen said in a statement Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3, 187-pound senior caught a team-high 38 passes for 393 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2014. He’ll team with Marquez North and Pig Howard to potentially form the best trio of starting receivers in the SEC East.

Pearson’s reinstatement is huge news for the Vols. Coach Butch Jones commented on the lack of consistency in the passing game intermittently throughout spring practice and again Tuesday, the team’s first on-field session of preseason ball.

Now Tennessee just needs North to stay healthy and needs to ensure the offensive tackles do a better job of protecting Joshua Dobbs, and some of the uncertainty surrounding the team’s passing game should drift away.
