Here’s how Tennessee graded in its Week 7 win over Chattanooga.

OFFENSE: C

Justin Worley enjoyed a spectacular individual performance. The senior quarterback scored a career-best five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing) and accounted for 198 passing yards. Tennessee’s running backs were less successful, combining for 96 yards on 27 attempts. But the biggest flaw was the Vols inept offensive line, who, once again, allowed several sacks, this time facing a FCS defense.

DEFENSE: A

Tennessee’s defense enjoyed another strong performance. The Vols held Chattanooga to a 5-of-14 third down efficiency and just 96 passing yards. The Vols also forced three turnovers, including a 53-yard interception by Justin Coleman.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A-

Tennessee’s returners had several key returns that led to scoring drives. Cameron Sutton’s 42-yard punt return set up the Vols’ first score, starting the drive on the Chattanooga 38-yard line. Evan Berry’s 68-yard return led to a 19-yard touchdown by Johnathon Johnson. Kicker Aaron Medley had several kickoffs sail in the end zone for touchbacks. As a place kicker, Medley went 1-of-2 on field goal attempts and 6-of-6 on PATs.

COACHING: A

Tennessee’s coordinators called a solid game. The Vols used the advantage of facing an FCS opponent to spread the football to different skill position players. Butch Jones also made a smart decision letting Nathan Peterman take snaps with a large lead. Peterman looked rattled in past performances and may have had his confidence boosted after Saturday.

OVERALL: B+

Tennessee enjoyed a dominant victory as expected. However, there are still several issues that need to be addressed moving forward. The Vols line is terrible, and that’s a polite way of putting it. Its unacceptable for an SEC offensive line to allow several sacks to a FCS team. Tennessee was fortunate to have this game leading up to a tough matchup against Ole Miss.
