It did not take Deandre Johnson long to find a new home.

The departing Tennessee linebacker entered the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday. Saturday evening he announced his commitment to Miami via his Twitter account.

Johnson’s commitment to the Hurricanes does not come as a surprise. When news broke of his entry to the portal, Wes Rucker of 247Sports reported that Johnson, a Miami native, was seeking to be “closer to home for family reasons.”

A former 3-star prospect, Johnson signed with UT in the 2017 recruiting class. Over the last four seasons, he played in 40 games, including nine starts. This season, he tied for the team lead with 4.5 sacks while also recording a career-high 28 tackles, including 6 for a loss, and 2 forced fumbles in 10 games.

Johnson was a senior in 2020. Due to COVID-19, the NCAA ruled that the 2020 season would not count against eligibility, meaning Johnson will be considered a true senior at UM for the 2021 season.
