The day after a disappointing and embarrassing loss to Georgia State, Tennessee players held a players-only meeting trying to prevent a similar upset from happening again.

DB Theo Jackson revealed the meeting when speaking to reporters on Tuesday prior to UT practice.

“We all came together that Sunday,” Jackson told reporters. “We all just met without the coaches to go over, like, what do we need to do to get better in the future and don’t let this happen again?”

The 2019 Vols certainly aren’t the first squad to hold a players-only meeting after a loss. Sometimes, it does the trick and whatever wasn’t working finally starts to click.

A popular college football cliche is “don’t let a team beat you twice.” Jeremy Pruitt’s squad is hoping that a Georgia State hangover doesn’t carry over into Week 2. Some fans were surprised to see that handicappers still have the Volunteers favored to beat BYU in Week 2. When opening lines were revealed Sunday, UT was favored by 2-to-2.5 points at many books.
