Trey Smith may have one of the best underdog stories a former top 10 recruit can have.

He was born in Humboldt, Tennessee and decided to stay home and attend the University of Tennessee over offers from just about every DI powerhouse in the country. He starred there for 4 years, but was only drafted in the 6th round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Why? Team doctors found that Smith had blood clots in his lungs in 2018.

That issue ultimately tanked his draft stock. Still, the Chiefs took a swing on him in the 6th round and hit a 500-foot homer to dead center. He’s been a strong addition to the Chiefs O-line and has been showing it all season.

He sprung a Chiefs touchdown essentially by himself Sunday afternoon, blocking 2 defenders with ease on one play

Smith became the Chiefs’ starting right guard as a rookie. He’s kept that spot on the field since.

Kansas City is 10-3 on the season, looking to get back to the Super Bowl after Cincinnati won the AFC last season.
