Twitter reacts to controversial onside kick ruling in Missouri-Tennessee game
The Tennessee Volunteers found themselves on the short end of a controversial call in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game against Missouri. After offsetting penalties negated a successful try on the previous play, the Vols were called offsides after recovering an onside kickoff with 1:52 remaining. Tennessee challenged the play, which was upheld by officials, and was left with one timeout trailing 29-21.
Here’s how twitter reacted to the controversial call:
This is the first onside kick. Tennessee clearly wasn’t offsides. The penalty cost them possession. #Vols#BadCallpic.twitter.com/s0LK1WTvI8

Not to say Tennessee got cheated out of a win, but they got a cheated out of a chance to win w/ this “offsides” call pic.twitter.com/pT1X1FSU8O

Not that Tennessee didn’t blow this game…but does anyone see any Tennessee player offsides? #SEC #TennvsMizz pic.twitter.com/qulI1cw33y

@SEC Refs botched that offsides call in the Tennessee Mizzou game. Called non-existent offsides from the booth. Really poor job.

Hate to name call, but the refs legitimately threw that game for Tennessee. They weren’t offsides on first onside kick. Not fair at all.

Apparently they just called offsides on Tennessee as they left the locker room.

Forget about the offsides call. Tennessee failed to get 3rd down stops and had no offensive touchdowns until 2 minutes remained.
