The uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position in Knoxville may be getting the majority of attention this spring but finding weapons for the quarterbacks will be just as important for Tennessee. But it’s not just the receivers, outside of Jauan Jennings, that need to show something during spring camp, it’s the units new position coach Kevin Beard.

Beard, of course, takes over for Zach Azzanni, who left to take over the same position for the Chicago Bears. Friday afternoon, Tennessee released a hype video showcasing Beard coaching up his position group during spring practice. One thing of interest in the video, sophomore Marquez Callaway is featured prominently in the video. Perhaps this is an indication of the young receiver stepping up early on this spring?

Callaway, a former four-star signee and U.S. Army All-American, is entering his second season for Tennessee after making only one catch his first year on campus. Despite his lack of production in the passing game, Callaway was able to flash his brilliance in the punt return game last season, as he returned two punts against Tennessee Tech for 114 total yards — including one for a 62-yard touchdown.

In addition to Callaway, Beard has relatively unproven receivers in Latrell Williams, Brandon Johnson, Tyler Byrd, and Jeff George to work with this spring. If Tennessee’s new receivers coach can get these players to give ‘all you got’ as he says in the video, the position should be strong on Rocky Top in 2017.
