Tennessee has self-reported multiple football rules violations in recent months.

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, a public records request has yielded information on 18 self-reported NCAA violations since May, four of which directly involved the football program.

All of the violations were of the Level III variety, which is considered the least severe.

According to Tennessee beat writer Dustin Dopirak, the Vols issued self-imposed penalties for each of the violations, and the NCAA approved those penalties.

Here are the details on the four football violations:

  • Defensive backs coach Willie Martinez had impermissible contact with a recruit, which resulted in a one-game suspension that he served against Bowling Green during the opening weekend of the 2015 season.
  • Butch Jones allowed a recruit to follow him onto the court during a basketball game, which resulted in cheers and attention for the prospective student athlete. The Vols coaching staff did not contact the recruit until the day before National Signing Day as a self-imposed punishment.
  • A Vols midyear enrollee posted a picture of himself and a recruit on an official visit during one of the recruiting weekends. Tennessee requested and was granted reprieve from penalty as the new student-athlete was unaware of the rules about such pictures.
  • A Vols walkon player, whose “temporary certification” had expired, was allotted a full set of complimentary tickets to the Chattanooga game. He was ruled ineligible for the remainder of the season.

Ultimately, these are very small infractions that the Vols appear to have handled in a swift and direct manner.
