It might be difficult for Tennesse fans to believe, but former Volunteers quarterback Josh Dobbs is fighting to even make the roster for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It’s part of the reason he’s playing early in a preseason game so close to the start of the season. He’s battling with Mason Rudolph and Landry Jones for a spot behind starter Ben Roethlisberger.

Dobbs helped his own cause Thursday night against the Panthers. On the first series of the game, Dobbs led the Steelers down the field on a 10-play, 79-yard drive in just over five minutes.

He capped it off with a three-yard keeper run around the edge that ended with him going up and over the Carolina defense for the touchdown.

Dobbs is now in his second season in the NFL. He was selected in the fourth round by the Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft.
