Vanderbilt RB Ralph Webb is one of the most talented backs in the country. Through four games, Webb has 472 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Commodores coach Derek Mason had a lot to say about his star player during Wednesday’s Week 5 SEC Media Presser. Mason started by saying the Florida native might be running extra hard:

“There’s motivation for him every week… but for him being a Gainesville native, he knows players on that team,” Mason said. “He will play hard.”

As good as Webb has been in years past, Mason said the junior is even better in 2016:

“Every year he has added something to his game, he has added pass protection to his game,” Mason said. “He’s more elusive now in the open field. His game has become more complete.”

After comparing Webb to Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, who Mason coached during a stint as an assistant for the team, he gave his star runner even more high praise:

“I would not trade him for any running back in the nation,” he said.

The Commodores are coming off a 31-30 overtime victory against Western Kentucky, but have struggled so far this season. Mason said Vandy are working on developing a winning mentality moving forward:

“Teaching someone to win is tough,” he said. “If they don’t have it in them, it’s hard to bring it out. It’s not an overnight process… It’s been almost 28 months in the making but it’s coming. These guys have grown tremendously. They have done a lot of great things but the adversity faced against Western Kentucky was something.

“We aren’t satisfied [with the Commodores’ 2-2 record] but that’s what we are,” he continued. “We let an opportunity or two get away but we are working hard to avoid that moving forward.”

Vanderbilt and Florida will square off in Nashville on Saturday at 11 a.m. Central time. The game can be seen on the SEC Network.
