Former Vanderbilt QB Jay Cutler retired from the NFL after the 2016 season and immediately landed a job with FOX as a broadcaster.

However, when Miami Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill went down with a season-ending injury, the team managed to convince the longtime Chicago Bear to come out of retirement.

It turns out that may have been the best thing for everyone.

According to Peter King’s Monday Morning QB, Cutler may not have been ready for the broadcast booth anyway:

Me to Jay Cutler: “Did you practice doing TV much this offseason before coming back?”

Cutler: “I mean, I’d be lying if I said I did.”

Cutler got the reputation in the NFL as someone who didn’t particularly care what happened. Whether that was unfair or not, his answer to King’s question doesn’t exactly paint him in the best light.

Now, it’ll be interesting to see if Cutler gets another shot in the broadcast booth if and when he wants it or if that ship has sailed.
