Just under two weeks ago, 13 days to be exact, we wrote about Nick Eason joining the Vanderbilt coaching staff as Derek Mason’s defensive line coach. Turns out Eason won’t be coaching a single game for the Commodores as the assistant coach is returning to the NFL.

Last season, Eason served as the Tennessee Titans defensive line coach but apparently 13 days of recruiting were enough for the assistant coach as both Albert Breer of the MMQB and Tom Pelissro of NFL Media are both reporting that Eason is leaving to join the new Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff. Before getting into coaching, Eason played 10 seasons in the NFL before starting his coaching career.

Now Vanderbilt is back down to nine full-time assistant coaches after having a full complement of staffers for nearly two weeks. It will be interesting to see where Mason turns to fill the defensive line coach position on his staff but based on this experience, don’t look for the Commodores to be hiring from the NFL anytime soon.
