Hurricane Florence is on its way. College football programs in the path of the storm are already canceling or rescheduling many of their games. In Charlottesville, Virginia is exploring options to play elsewhere.

According to Mike Barber of The Richmond Times-Dispatch, Virginia is in discussions with Vanderbilt to move the team’s home game against Ohio to Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville.

From Charlottesville, Nashville is more than an eight-hour drive, so it’s certainly a trek, but for the Ohio football team, the travel time will only increase by a little more than an hour if they have to drive to Nashville instead of Charlottesville.

The forecast is predicting heavy rain in Virginia on Saturday, and the state troopers who usually work home games will be needed elsewhere in the state.

Vanderbilt is visiting No. 8 Notre Dame on Saturday, so the Commodores’ 40,500-seat stadium is available. Virginia last played in Nashville for the Music City Bowl in 2005, but the Cavaliers haven’t taken the field at Vanderbilt since 1975.
