It hasn’t been a great week so far for Vanderbilt on the recruiting trail.

After 3-star cornerback Caleb Coley decommitted on Monday, the Commodores lost another 3-star recruit on Tuesday when athlete B.J. Diakite announced his decision to decommit on Twitter. Diakite had been committed to Vandy since March 22.

Diakite, who is the No. 55 athlete in the 2022 class per the 247Sports Composite rankings, shared the following statement:

Diakite visited Vanderbilt on Sept. 18, but he then visited Georgia Tech and received an offer from the Yellow Jackets on Oct. 2. So it’s possible that could be where he ends up going instead to begin his college career.

The Commodores’ 2022 class is now down to 16 players and ranks No. 43 in the country, per the 247Sports Composite team rankings. They have 15 3-star recruits and 1 2-star player.

According to Robbie Weinstein of 247Sports.com, Diakite had projected to play a hybrid linebacker/safety position for Vanderbilt.
