Kyle Shurmur will start at quarterback today for Vanderbilt.

He will be the seventh true freshman to start under center for the Commodores since 1975.

Shurmur had been redshirting, but Vanderbilt has chosen to burn his redshirt in search of an offensive spark. The Commodores are averaging just 19.3 points per game, and have scored more than 17 points only once in six games. Shurmur replaces Johnny McCrary, who threw 10 interceptions in six games, under center.

The 6-foot-4, 226-pound Shumur was a four-star recruit after passing for 2,472 yards and 25 touchdowns his senior year at LaSalle High School near Philadelphia. Rivals.com ranked him the No. 14 quarterback in the Class of 2015.
