Jerome Ford transferred from Alabama to Cincinnati, but the running back wants to make clear where his loyalties lie, and he spoke to it at a media session ahead of the Cotton Bowl on Monday.

“I’m thankful for everything Coach (Nick) Saban did for me and the opportunity to play at Alabama,” he said. “But I’m a Bearcat, and I would kind of appreciate it if people stopped calling me ‘the Alabama transfer.’ I am a Cincinnati Bearcat.”

The junior out of Tampa, Florida had a incredible regular season and conference title game. He was named an All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection, and was MVP of the championship game. Ford led the 13-0 Bearcats with 1,242 yards rushing, 19 rushing touchdowns and 20 total touchdowns, while he averaged 6.2 yards per carry. His 19 rushing touchdowns ranked sixth nationally while his 20 total touchdowns was third. Both touchdown marks tied school records.

At Alabama, Ford redshirted his first season on campus after he only appeared in 4 games in 2018. Ford again appeared in 4 games in the 2019 season, and made one start among his 4 appearances. At Alabama, Ford had 151 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns.
