About SEC Football

The Southeastern Conference (SEC) was established in 1932 with 13 members. Those founding schools were Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Sewanee, Georgia Tech and Tulane.

Over the years, the conference has seen plenty of changes. Sewanee left the SEC in 1940. Georgia Tech departed in 1964 and Tulane left in 1966. The SEC has undergone 3 expansions in the time since to get from 10 member schools to its current 16. In 1992, Arkansas and South Carolina joined the mix. In 2012, Texas A&M and Mizzou became members. And in 2024, Oklahoma and Texas joined the party.

The SEC has had plenty of success on the gridiron, producing 6 national championships from 3 different schools (Alabama, Georgia and LSU) just during the College Football Playoff era alone. The league has 16 Heisman Trophy winners to its name, as well.

Down South, Saturdays are special. As the official SEC slogan says, “It just means more.”
