Texas AM Aggies Basketball

About Texas A&M Basketball

The Aggies were a basketball power in the old Southwest Conference under legendary coach Shelby Metcalf. But after winning 6 league titles and making 10 postseason appearances from 1963-90, they fell upon hard times.

They qualified for the postseason only once and finished above .500 in conference play only twice over the next 14 seasons as they transitioned into the Big 12.

But that changed with the hiring of Billy Gillespie in 2005. It only took 2 seasons to get A&M back to the NCAA Tournament, the first of 6 straight appearances before Gillespie left for Kentucky. His replacement, Mark Turgeon, took the program to even greater heights by winning 71% of his games, going 97-40, over the next 4 seasons.

Current coach Buzz Williams has continued that winning tradition, winning 20-plus games in each of the past 4 seasons in the difficult SEC with a playing style as intense as his fiery personality.
