The Florida Gators are one of the most exciting programs in the entire SEC. Though they didn’t reach national prominence in a big way until Steve Spurrier was the head coach, they’ve made up for lost time, winning national championships in 1996 under Spurrier and in 2006 and 2008 under Urban Meyer.
The Gators have produced 3 Heisman Trophy winners, all of them quarterbacks — Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996) and Tim Tebow (2007). Tebow was one of the best players ever to step foot on a college football field.
The Swamp is one of the toughest places to play in the country, and watching Gator fans honor Gainesville legend Tom Petty with “I Won’t Back Down” at the end of the third quarter is an incredible new tradition.
