Where is PrizePicks legal?

PrizePicks, one of the top DFS apps on the market today, is live and legal in 29 U.S. states and Washington DC. Those 31 states are: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MI, MN, NE, NM, NC, ND, OK, OR, RI, SC, SD, TX, UT, VT, VA, WI and WY.

Located north of the border in Canada? Never fear! PrizePicks is also available in every Canadian province except for Ontario.

Unfortunately, the list above means there are still 19 states that don’t have the ability to play PrizePicks’ daily fantasy sports contests.

The states that aren’t available for PrizePicks users are: CT, DE, FL, HI, IA, ID, LA, MD, ME, MO, MS, MT, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, TN, WA and WV.

NOTE: PrizePicks ceased operations in Florida on March 1, 2024.

How old do you have to be to play PrizePicks?

In order to get started on PrizePicks, you must be at least 19 years of age and located in one of the legal states or provinces mentioned above. A couple of states have different rules, as players must be at least 21 years of age in Arizona and Massachusetts.

When you sign up for a PrizePicks account (more on that at the end of this page), you’ll have to enter some personal information, including some that verifies your age. So if you’re in Arizona or Massachusetts, you’ll just need to prove that you’re at least 21 years old.

Which states have different rules for PrizePicks?

Not every state has the same rules when it comes to playing PrizePicks’ popular DFS contests. For example, in Alabama, you are only allowed to play “combo” squares. As we’ll detail below, those are contests that combine 2 players’ stats into one projection.

In Illinois, PrizePicks users cannot pick projections for any college athlete who plays at a university within the state of Illinois borders.

That’s lenient compared to Arkansas, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont, where PrizePicks players aren’t allowed to make picks involving collegiate athletics at all.

And in Colorado, players must have at least 4 picks in every contest, and those picks must be either “fantasy points” stats or the “combo” squares mentioned above.

Today’s Top PrizePicks

Game Player Higher / Lower
NYM vs. STL J. Butto Higher 5.5 Strikeouts
TB vs. CWS Z. Eflin Higher 5.5 Strikeouts
SD vs. PHI A. Nola Higher 5.0 Strikeouts

For Friday, April 26, 2024, I’m going with 3 MLB strikeout picks from tonight’s slate. First, when the Mets and Cardinals square off, I’ll take New York starter José Butto to record 6+ strikeouts against the struggling Redbirds. Next, give me Zach Eflin of the Tampa Bay Rays to have 6+ K’s against an atrocious Chicago White Sox team. And finally, I like Aaron Nola of the Philadelphia Phillies to post 6 or more strikeouts out in San Diego tonight.

What makes PrizePicks great?

Now that we have all of that stuff out of the way, it’s time to dive into the app itself and why it’s so popular. First off, it’s the variety.

PrizePicks allows players to enter contests on the big, popular leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS and NHL, but there are also contests involving college football and basketball in states where you can make college picks. Other options for picks contests include tennis, international soccer and esports. If you can’t find a contest you like, you must not be a sports fan!

I’m a big fan of NBA contests. I wouldn’t normally be interested in a game between the Pacers and Hornets, but when I have picks involving Tyrese Haliburton and LaMelo Ball, all of a sudden I’m glued to my TV hoping for an offensive outburst from both guys.

NFL picks contests are also great. There are so few NFL games compared to the NBA, MLB and NHL slates, so you want to maximize your weekends around NFL slates. During football season, I consume all the NFL information I can in order to make sure my picks contests are ready to roll on Sunday afternoons.

But no matter what sport you like, you can craft contests on PrizePicks. I prefer 3- or 4-pick entries, but you can go up to up to 6 picks if you so choose.

Is PrizePicks legit?

In a word? Absolutely. PrizePicks was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Atlanta. It was founded by Adam Wexler and Jay Deuskar and has partnerships with the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins, according to CrunchBase.

You’ve also likely noticed their advertisements on TV during NFL and NBA football games. Oh, and there have been branded ads on social media, too. Yes, PrizePicks is one of the leaders in the DFS space because of its longevity, quality and strong branding.

PrizePicks doesn’t do much, limiting itself to picks contests only, but it is a top DFS app because of its simplicity and ease of use. Log in, make your picks and start watching the games! It really is that simple.

What types of contests can you play on PrizePicks?

Just because PrizePicks “only” has pick’em contests available on the app doesn’t mean there’s no variety! For example, users can make their picks selections and then choose whether to do a “Power Play” or a “Flex Play.” On power plays, you must get every single pick right in order to win. So if you make 4 picks and get all 4 correct, you win 10x  your entry fee.

On a flex play, you can miss 1 or more parts of your contest and still win money. If you go 6-for-6 on a flex play, you’ll earn 25x your entry fee. But if you go 5-for-6, you’ll still win double your entry fee. And if you go 4-for-6, you’ll earn half your entry fee back.

Here’s a look at a winning 2-pick contest involving MLB strikeout totals:

The $20 entry fee was a mistake on my part, as I usually only play contests with $5-$10 entry fees, so I was certainly sweating this one out. Fortunately, Spencer Strider and JP France earned major points in my book by taking care of business so I took home $60 in winnings! Whew!

Of course, you don’t always catch breaks. This was a tough loss for me:

If only OG Anunoby had scored 4 more points, I’d have won $50! Alas, I should have known the upstart Orlando Magic would lock him down.

You don’t just have to make picks involving single players. For a Monday Night Football game, there were some unique specials that I took advantage of involving multiple sports. Check out this interesting contest I entered involving NFL+NBA stats:

That’s a way that PrizePicks provides constant innovation and value to its users. Would I normally care about a Monday Night Football game between the Vikings and Bears? Well, with the way my Green Bay Packers are playing this year, not really. But this contest now not only has me invested in the results of Vikings-Bears, but also with what’s happening on the Monday night NBA slate.

There are Champions League picks, college basketball picks, esports picks and picks for anything you can imagine on PrizePicks. If you want to make every game a little more exciting by having real money on the line, PrizePicks absolutely has you covered!

Is there a minimum entry fee on PrizePicks?

Yes, you must play contests with a minimum $5 entry fee on PrizePicks. That’s a bit more than the industry standard. Most DFS apps, including Underdog and Sleeper, only require users to post $1 as a minimum entry fee. DraftKings Fantasy even has contests available for as little as 10 cents!

So if you are looking for apps with smaller entry fees, PrizePicks might not be for you. But if you have the bankroll to spend at least $5 for each entry, PrizePicks is one of the top apps on the market in the entire DFS space.

PrizePicks Deposits and Withdrawals

There are numerous ways to add money to your PrizePicks account, and they’re all fast and safe. You can add debit and credit cards to your account. You can also use online banking, PayPal and Apple Pay to add funds to your bankroll on PrizePicks.

As for withdrawals, PrizePicks makes you play through all deposited funds at least once before you can withdraw them. That’s something that Underdog, Sleeper and other DFS apps don’t do. If you accidentally hit an extra 0 on a deposit and don’t catch it in time, it appears PrizePicks would make you play through all of that accidental money before you could withdraw it, which is not ideal.

PrizePicks only allows a maximum of $1,000 in withdrawals every 7 days, and the withdrawal process is a bit lengthier than other apps, as you have to enter a code sent to your email to initiate the process.

Withdrawal options include instant bank transfer or a direct payment to your previous deposit method (i.e. credit/debit card, PayPal or Apple Pay).
