Former Tennessee forward Cade Phillips, the son of 2 former Alabama Crimson Tide student-athletes, isn’t going to Tuscaloosa. He’s staying in the SEC, but he won’t be transferring home.
Instead, Phillips announced on social media on Thursday that he has committed to play for Texas A&M coach Bucky McMillan.

Phillips appeared in 10 games for the Volunteers during the 2025-26 season. He made 9 starts and averaged 3.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 16.9 minutes per game. A shoulder injury forced him to undergo surgery last December. If he’s able to secure a medical redshirt, he’d have 2 years of eligibility remaining for the Aggies.
Phillips spent 3 seasons with the Volunteers. He appeared in 61 total games for the Vols, averaging 3.7 points and 3.1 rebounds across all contests.
His commitment is a big win for A&M, particularly when considering the fact it came at the direct expense of another SEC competitor. Alabama was interested. According to multiple reports, Phillips visited Tuscaloosa recently. He is the son of former Crimson Tide quarterback John David Phillips and ex-Crimson Tide women’s basketball player Reagan Croyle Phillips. His uncle is former Alabama quarterback Brodie Croyle, and his grandfather is ex-Tide defensive end John Croyle.
Texas A&M has now landed 3 transfer commitments, with Phillips joining former Radford guard Lukas Walls and Kansas State guard PJ Haggerty.
