ESPN FPI rankings after Week 3: LSU moves up despite loss at Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels pulled off the biggest win of the weekend on Saturday night in Oxford, taking down former coach Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers 32-24.
It was an exciting game all the way through, with LSU battling back from an early deficit to tie the score before Ole Miss scored a late touchdown and added a 2-point conversion to seal the deal.
And yet… in ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI), LSU is still ranked significantly ahead of Ole Miss. The Rebels moved up 4 spots this week to the No. 13 position, but LSU moved up 1 spot and is sitting at No. 8 in the updated rankings.

Why is Ole Miss behind a Texas A&M team that lost at home to Kentucky? And only 1 spot ahead of Oklahoma, a team that lost at Michigan in Week 2? The FPI system sometimes doesn’t make sense.
The 5 SEC teams that didn’t make the top 25 are South Carolina (No. 27), Mizzou (No. 32), Kentucky (No. 36), Vanderbilt (No. 43) and Arkansas (No. 74).
