Greg McElroy is out with some must-win games ahead of this college football season, and has circled an annual marquee event out of the SEC West.

McElroy chose the Alabama-LSU game from the SEC, and noted that Alabama is coming off of a loss and hasn’t lost back-to-back games to an SEC West team since Ole Miss in 2014-15.

McElroy recalled how many people figured last year’s Alabama-LSU would not even be competitive for 4 quarters in favor of Alabama given LSU’s rollercoaster start to the season. LSU’s win was “one of the biggest shocks” of the college football season.

This season, McElroy said, LSU has a veteran QB, arguably the best offensive line in college football, and elite wide receivers. And the defense returns its 2 best players.

“LSU’s going to be really, really good,” McElroy said. “Alabama has been the standard in the SEC West for the better part of the last 15 years. … But if LSU were to get a victory in Bryant-Denny Stadium and win 2 in a row against Nick Saban, would that indicate a bit of a shift in the way teams are perceived in the SEC West. I don’t know. But that’s one I think Alabama has to win, and with it being at home, I think they’ll probably be favored going into the game.”
