Nick Saban ensured fans during his radio show on Thursday that his confidence in Will Reichard was high despite missing a pair of field goals against LSU in Week 10.
Reichard was perfect on point-afters as he went 6-of-6 during the Crimson Tide’s 42-28 victory over the Tigers. However, he missed field goals from 47 and 43 yards out, his 1st 2 misses of the year after hitting on 15 in a row.
Saban’s solution? Letting his kicker be.
“When we start telling guys like Will Reichard how to do what he does, it probably can mess him up more than it can help him,” Saban said, according to 247Sports’ Mike Rodak, while comparing them to golfers who don’t need to be reminded when they make a mistake.
Saban and the Tide will hope that Reichard’s struggles on field goals against LSU are temporary and that he can get back to normal on Saturday against Kentucky. The Tide can clinch the SEC West with a victory, or with a loss by Ole Miss at Georgia.
Kickoff from Kroger Field in Lexington is set for noon ET on ESPN.
