The 2019 NFL Draft is over and done, and what an event it was this year in Nashville.
The SEC set the record for most draft picks from a conference, sending 64 players off to the NFL ranks. It’ll be exciting to see all those guys (and the undrafted free agents) in NFL camps this summer.
After the draft ended, NFL.com analyst Chase Goodbread tallied up the draft picks by their position, and it’s incredible to note that defensive backs crushed all other positions, with 51 players at the position chosen:
2019 draft picks by position:
DBs – 51
LBs – 39
WRs – 27
RBs – 26
OTs – 21
DEs – 19
DTs – 19
TE – 16
OGs – 15
QBs – 11
C – 4
K – 2
P – 2
NT – 1
LS – 1— Chase Goodbread (@ChaseGoodbread) April 28, 2019
If you tally up all the offensive linemen, 40 were chosen, so that is worth pointing out as well.
The NFL is becoming a passing league, so teams need to load up in the secondary to be able to slow down this generation of pass-happy offenses.
