Published:

Tennessee RB Joe Young, who was held out of spring practice, is unlikely to play for the Volunteers again according to Knoxville radio host Jimmy Hyams.

The details of Young’s neck injury have yet to be fully disclosed, but earlier this month GoVols247 reported that Young might be a student coach in 2016:

“I would say he’s got to go through some other things, but right now we anticipate him being a student coach,” Jones said during Tennessee’s final Big Orange Caravan stop Tuesday at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“We’ve got to see, again, how the body heals and he goes through some different testing right now.”

Young played in five games as a true freshman for Tennessee in 2015, recording 64 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries.
