Nick Saban has now won six titles in his legendary coaching career, and he’s not done yet. Therefore, any conversation about the best coaches in college football starts with him.

However, there are plenty of other talented coaches throughout the country, including Urban Meyer at Ohio State and Dabo Swinney at Clemson.

On Wednesday, CBS Sports analyst Tom Fornelli ranked the top 25 coaches in the country, and four other SEC coaches joined Saban in the top 14:

  • No. 1 — Nick Saban, Alabama
  • No. 4 — Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M
  • No. 8 — Kirby Smart, Georgia
  • No. 13 — Dan Mullen, Florida
  • No. 14 — Gus Malzahn, Auburn

About Saban, Fornelli said he expects the Alabama legend to retain the No. 1 spot for as long as he patrols the sidelines in Tuscaloosa:

The king stays the king, man. I mean, this guy is so good that he just won a national title despite not winning his conference for the second time. That’s remarkable in and of itself, but then you realize those two national titles constitute only a third of the national titles he’s won overall. He’s the greatest college football coach of all time, and it’s hard to imagine him not finishing at No. 1 in these rankings every year until he retires.

See what he had to say about the other four coaches here.
