Cord Sandberg retired from minor league baseball to return to the gridiron. And now, the former Mississippi State signee is getting closer to determining where his football career will resume.

Sandberg told Jeffrey Lee of Rivals.com that he has narrowed his choices to three schools — Auburn, LSU and N.C. State. Sandberg has scheduled an official visit to each of the three schools this month.

“I have enjoyed conversations with the coaches at all of those schools,” Sandberg told Lee. “I can see myself enjoying going to school for 3-4 years in those towns.”

Sandberg will visit N.C. State from July 25-26, Auburn from July 26-28 and LSU from July 28-29, according to Lee. Sandberg has an offer from Auburn. He would go on scholarship in January at LSU or N.C. State.

Sandberg also had interest from Florida, UCLA and UCF, among other schools.

After playing for Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla., Sandberg signed with Mississippi State in 2013. However, after getting selected by the Phillies in the third round of the 2013 MLB Draft, Sandberg opted to begin his professional baseball career.

Sandberg played six seasons in the Phillies’ minor league system before opting to return to football. Soon, he’ll decide where he will enroll to get back on the gridiron.

“Offensively, N.C. State and Auburn are a little more similar as far as the spread [offense], and LSU is maybe working to be more of a spread,” Sandberg told Lee. “I feel comfortable with the conversations I’ve had with all of those guys and what my role would be playing quarterback at all of those schools.”

Here are some of Sandberg’s highlights from his senior year of high school in 2012:
