Texas continues to add to the 2025 recruiting class, picking up a major piece of the puzzle on Monday.

The player comes in the form of Nick Townsend, a 4-star prospect out of Dekaney High School in Houston. Townsend’s final commitment came down to the Longhorns, Alabama, USC, Texas A&M and Arizona State, but he will head to Texas and suit up for Steve Sarkisian’s program.

Townsend is listed at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds as a 4-star recruit and the No. 21 player from Texas per the 247 Sports Composite. He’s also rated as the 114th player in the country for the 2025 recruiting class.

Though listed as a TE, the composite rates Townsend as the No. 3 ATH in the country. He has made plays on both sides of the ball in high school as a TE, linebacker and edge rusher.

Impact for Texas

The addition of Townsend brings Texas up to 15 hard commitments for the cycle, a group that ranks 15th in the country per the 247 Sports Team Composite. While the Longhorns are in search of their first 5-star player for the year, 8 of the current commitments have received a 4-star composite rating.

A pair of Texas’s commitments are top-100 players, and the group as a whole ranks 9th in the SEC. Alabama, after finding its footing under Kalen DeBoer, leads the SEC with Georgia close behind.

The overall class for Sarkisian is not bad by any means, but the Longhorns will need to pick it up over the fall to boost the strength of the class ahead of signing day.
