Looking at some of the top running backs in the nation and it shouldn’t be a surprise that Alabama is involved heavily with the group. The Crimson Tide already have a verbal commitment from five-star prospect Najee Harris – the top-rated player in the nation – but they are not done.

Here’s a quick update on the Top 10 ranked running backs in the nation, according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings.

Update: The top-rated prospect in the nation according to 247 Sports Composite rankings appears to be solidly committed to Alabama and camped in Tuscaloosa this week. Programs like USC, Texas, Ohio State and Michigan are still fighting for Harris but to no avail.

2. Cam Akers (Clinton, Miss.)
Size: 5-11.5, 215
Stars: 5
Status: Uncommitted
Update: Recent updates have Akers pretty high on Georgia and Michigan. He’s also checking out Ohio State and Florida State and could camp at one or both places in the upcoming weeks. Ole Miss is also waiting in the wings.

3. Stephen Carr (Fontana, Calif.)

Stars: 5
Status: Committed to USC
Update: Doesn’t appear to be much here as Carr is solidly with the Trojans right now.

4. D’Andre Swift (Philadelphia)

Update: Late last month Swift released a top five of Penn State, Clemson, FSU, Georgia and Alabama.

5. Khalan Laborn (Virginia Beach, Va.)

Update: Laborn has a top group of schools that include the usual suspects – Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. He was expected to commit this week but has pushed back his date. Auburn, FSU and Virginia Tech appear to be in good position.

Status: Committed to Ohio State
Update: Dobbins is solid to the Buckeyes, but Texas and Oklahoma are staying in touch.

Update: Chandler has a top eight of USC, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Duke, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia and Auburn. He recently camped at Ole Miss and it looks like the Rebels and Volunteers have jumped out ahead of the other schools.
