The Florida Gators are a mess right now, especially after losing at Mizzou 45-16 on Saturday afternoon.

Interim coach Randy Shannon has his work cut out for him if he’s going to salvage what’s left of the Gators’ season, and that job starts with the quarterback position.

Florida started Malik Zaire against the Tigers after Feleipe Franks had gotten most of the starts this year. During his Monday press conference, Shannon said the team would stick with Zaire — the Notre Dame graduate transfer — for this weekend’s game against South Carolina:

Neither Franks nor Zaire have been particularly effective this year, but the Gators have been decimated by injuries and suspensions on that side of the ball.

The Gamecocks don’t have an elite defense, but based on the dud Florida turned in at Mizzou last weekend, it won’t take much for South Carolina to pick up the win, regardless of who is starting at quarterback.
