South Carolina DB Tavyn Jackson medically disqualified from football

South Carolina S Tavyn Jackson has been held out of a lot of fall camp so far as he dealt with heat-related issues.
Now, it appears that Jackson’s 2018 season — and his football career in general — is going to come to a premature end.
On Sunday, the redshirt freshman safety posted on his private Instagram page that he was going to have to retire from football due to his sickle cell disorder (via 247Sports):
To start this off, I’ve been experiencing hard times since I’ve arrived to college but always managed to see through. I appreciate all of the support from my family, friends and teammates. Without you guys especially my teammates I wouldn’t have gotten this far. The decision was made based on my future and what will come. I have been medically disqualified to play football again due to my sickle cell but USC is still honoring my scholarship and I’ll finish school with a degree. I thank everyone and keep me in your prayers. Spurs Up. – T. Jack
Jackson suffered a hamstring injury during his freshman season, and ended up missing the whole 2017 campaign.
Now, just before he was going to get a chance to contribute, the former 3-star signee is going to have to hang up his cleats. He’ll remain on scholarship, so hopefully he finds success in whatever he does next.
