The Georgia Bulldogs should have no problem taking care of business against Austin Peay in their 2018 season opener next weekend, but now they’ll have some help.

It was announced recently that the Governors’ second-leading rusher from 2017, Kentel Williams, had been suspended.

Williams, who finished with 674 yards in 2017, will miss the first two games of the year due to a violation of team rules:

According to the report in the above tweet, coach Will Healy said the team is disappointed in the talented running back:

“We’re disappointed in the decisions Kentel has made that led to his suspension, but we hope he uses this situation as an opportunity to learn from his mistakes and grow as a person,” Healy said. “We have certain expectations that must be met to play football at Austin Peay, and there are consequences when those expectations are not met.

“I am confident once Kentel has served his suspension, his brothers on the team will welcome him back with open arms.”

Ahmaad Tanner, who led the Govs with 697 rushing yards last season, is still with the squad and figures to get more carries in Williams’ absence.

Next Saturday’s game is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. Eastern time and can be seen on ESPN.
