There’s no shortage of great receivers across the SEC this season, but choosing how to rank them is a bit more difficult.

SEC Network analyst Gene Chizik took on that task with host Peter Burns as they ranked the top five wide receiver units in the league, primarily focusing on the top two targets.

To the surprise of no one who follows the league, the former Auburn coach picked Ole Miss at the top of the heap, led by A.J. Brown, who he called a future top 10 pick in the NFL, and D.K. Metcalf, a blue-collar guy, and matchup problem.

Somewhat surprising, at least to Burns was Georgia sat at No. 2 on Chizik’s list, and the former coach even noted that Mecole Hardman, who had a banner national title game, was missing. He instead chose to highlight Riley Ridley and Terry Godwin.

After six catches in the national championship, Chizik called Ridley the “best Ridley” in the national title, surpassing his brother, Calvin.

“Let’s not forget Terry Godwin’s catch in the corner of the end zone against Notre Dame,” Chizik said. “These two are dynamite together.”

At South Carolina, which has a deep unit itself, Chizik mentioned Deebo Samuel as one of the most exciting players in college football.

Speaking of matchup problems, Chizik found another one at Missouri with Albert Okwuegbunam.

One of the biggest additions to any offense in the SEC was Van Jefferson at Florida, who joins Tyrie Cleveland for a formidable deep threat combination.

“Van Jefferson adds an unbelievable dimension to that,” Chizik said.
