The LSU Tigers got off to a huge start by defeating No. 8 Miami 33-17 Sunday night.

The Tigers started somewhat slow on offense, but RB Nick Brossette got the party started by ripping off a 50-yard TD. LSU never really looked back, and its defense suffocated Miami’s offense.

Entering the game, Ed Orgeron sat on the SEC’s hottest seat, but wins like this will certainly cool that talk. Orgeron’s Tigers looked ready to play, and it showed. With the emergence of a solid Joe Burrow, the outlook changes in the SEC West.

Orgeron spoke to ESPN’s Holly Rowe immediately after Sunday night’s win.

On QB Joe Burrow: “(He showed) A lot of poise. He was under pressure at beginning, but he held it together. I always felt that Joe could get it done. I’m very proud of him and our offensive staff.”

On RB Nick Brossette: “Same story with Nick for four years. He’s an LSU Tiger! He’s a good back. He still needs to prove himself throughout the year. I think LSU fans will be very pleased with him.”

Orgeron later spoke to the media, via NOLA.com’s live Facebook feed:

  • We got a happy football team in there
  • You could tell today our guys were locked in. The leadership of this team has been phenomenal in fall camp.
  • Really proud of special teams. Shout out to Cole Tracy.
  • I’m proud of RB Nick Brossett. I think he’s going to have an excellent season.
  • Joe Burrow: There’s a lot of things to fix. He kept his poise. He was able to get a win for us.
  • Our team came together in fall camp. We block out the noise. I credit the leadership on this team.
  • There was no talk of being an underdog. We came to play a game. Our goal was to be 1-0. That’s the way we approach every game.
  • Really proud of LB Jacob Phillips. He’s really matured.
  • I wasn’t pleased with the blocking of the OL. We gave up too much penetration. I’m sure we’re going to get that fixed.
