Vanderbilt fans calling for Derek Mason to be fired after blowout loss at home to Kentucky
By SDS Staff
Published:
One SEC head coach has already been fired this season. If Vanderbilt fans get their wish, Derek Mason will be the second conference head coach to get canned this year.
The Commodores fell to 2-8 on Saturday, losing to Kentucky 38-14 at home. Adding insult to injury, VU surrendered over 400 rushing yards to a UK offense using a wide receiver at quarterback.
Fans on social media were calling for Mason, who is 26-46 at Vanderbilt, to be fired:
Vanderbilt giving up 401 rushing yards to a Kentucky team that has a wide receiver playing quarterback should just about do it for the Derek Mason era in Nashville.

@VandyAD the frustration of the football program’s entire fanbase is surely something you are aware of. Coach Derek Mason, though seemingly a great person I’m sure, is not a good HEAD football coach, and is not making the improvements us fans want to see. I hope you agree.

Am I the only one that remembers Derek Mason saying at the beginning of the season, that this years team has the most depth and talent in his 6 years of being at Vanderbilt? If so, this all on him…. #Pathetic

Yeah…Derek Mason bout to be fired.

@VandyAD This is embarrassing. Do your job and fire Derek Mason now. Everyone seems to think he'll make a great DC somewhere else. Good luck. This D is completely inept. The offense is the worst in the country with 3 NFL players. Enough is enough.

Dear Malcolm Turner, Do we need to start a fundraising campaign to get rid of Derek Mason?

If this doesn’t get Derek Mason fired what will?

Derek Mason was already likely done for but getting smoked by a team starting a QB when you’re hallmark is defense is all kinds of bad from an optics standpoint.

Media members also openly questioned whether Mason would be back in 2020:
Kentucky has rushed for 382 yards in less than three quarters. Lynn Bowden 100 passing, 100 rushing. Smoke needs nine yards to join him and Rodriguez with 100-plus on the ground.
That’s 35 unanswered points. Good luck in your next endeavor, Derek Mason.

Derek Mason has a really tough job but tough to see how this isn't the end.

This might be Derek Mason’s last game.
