The Mercer football program has officially hired former Georgia wide receiver Drew Cronic as its next head coach.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Bear Nation and everyone involved in this process for their patience and understanding these last two weeks,” Director of Athletics Jim Cole said in a release according to Macon.com. “I cannot wait to see Drew implement his system and winning culture at Five Star Stadium. We’re so happy for Drew, his wife, Amelia, and his three sons — Noah, Elijah and Isaiah — to be joining our Mercer Family.”

Cronic posted a 25-3 record during two seasons as the head coach of Lenoir-Rhyne in Division II. The year before he took over, Lenoir-Rhyne only had three wins.

He played wide receiver at Georgia when head coach Kirby Smart and former Bulldogs offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was there as well.

Mercer went 4-8 this season and fired coach Bobby Lamb after seven seasons.
