Tennessee had a strong first season under fictional coach Gus Duggerton, but Coach Duggs couldn’t quite pull off winning a national championship (still BCS championship in the “NCAA 14” video game).

In a game live-streamed Sunday night, Duggs (played by Barstool Sports’ Dan Katz, AKA Big Cat) and the Volunteers fell to Virginia Tech 49-29 in a virtual Rose Bowl. The Hokies were apparently so proud of beating Coach Duggs that they added it to their official website’s list of claimed national championships.

VT communications student David Cunningham tweeted his observation at 10:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Less than an hour later, however, it was gone.

While someone was presumably having fun and paying tribute to quarantine sensation Coach Duggs, it appears someone else at VT decided the school’s first claimed football national title shouldn’t be from a live-streamed video game.
