Since 1990, the Southern Heritage Classic has been played 28 times, with the only cancellation coming in 2018 due to inclement weather.

Jackson State and Tennessee State have faced off in that game 26 times, and every time since 1994. However, this year, the game has already been canceled.

Per a tweet from the game’s Twitter account, the game is being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

The game, set to be played at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12.

This is perhaps the first 2020 college football game to be canceled due to the pandemic. Historically, Tennessee State leads the series 17-10 over Jackson State.
