Matthew Stafford involved in blockbuster NFL trade
The Detroit Lions have been looking to trade star QB (and former Georgia Bulldog) Matthew Stafford this offseason.
On Saturday night, they found a taker in the Los Angeles Rams, working up quite the NFL blockbuster trade in the process.
Per Adam Schefter, Stafford is heading to the Rams in exchange for QB Jared Goff, a pair of future first-round picks and a third-round pick:
Detroit is dealing QB Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two future first-round picks, a third-round pick and QB Jared Goff, per sources. Two former No. 1 overall picks trading places in the first blockbuster NFL trade of 2021.

Stafford was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Goff was the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Stafford made the Pro Bowl in 2014. Goff was a Pro Bowler in 2017 and 2018. Stafford has thrown for 45,109 yards in his career, to go with 282 touchdowns and 144 interceptions.
The Rams are clearly in win-now mode with this trade, so he’ll be counted on to lead the team on a deep playoff run in 2021.
