New Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea is reportedly closing in on an offensive line hire.

According to 247Sports’ Robbie Weinstein, the Commodores are set to hire Wyoming OL coach AJ Blazek.

As it turns out, Blazek just arrived in Laramie last month after a couple seasons at North Dakota State. He helped coach the Bison during their 2019 National Championship run and for the team’s lone game of the 2020 fall campaign.

However, NDSU set a program record for rushing yards in a season with 4,601 yards with Blazek leading the offensive line in 2019.

Blazek is no stranger to Power 5 football. He served as Rutgers’ offensive line coach for three seasons before being hired by North Dakota State. He was also the assistant head coach for the Scarlet Knights.

As a player, Blazek was an All-American at Butler Community College before finishing his career with Iowa. He began his coaching career with the Hawkeyes as a graduate assistant in the early 2000s.

Blazek will have his work cut out for him. Vanderbilt’s offensive line is dealing with turnover from before the 2020 season and with a brand new coaching staff.
