Former Mizzou TE Sean Culkin signs futures contract with NFL team

Former Mizzou tight end Sean Culkin has lined up his next NFL opportunity. The league’s transaction wire revealed that Culkin has signed a reserve/futures contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
By signing a futures deal, Culkin isn’t counted as part of the Kansas City roster until the league officially enters the 2021 operating year and opens the offseason roster up to 90 spots. The futures deal will allow Culkin to compete for a spot with the 2021 Chiefs.
Culkin has been in the NFL since 2017 following four seasons at Mizzou (2013-16). Following the 2017 NFL Draft, Culkin signed with the Chargers franchise as an undrafted free agent. He saw an increase in snaps in the 2018 season and started 10 games for the Chargers that season. In 2019, he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 4 and missed the remainder of the season.
Culkin spent the 2020 season with the Baltimore Ravens. He was signed to the team’s practice squad in September. The Ravens promoted Culkin to the active roster for the Dec. 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and reverted him to the practice squad after that game.
