Nick Saban has a reputation as a coach-killer in the Southeastern Conference but not even he has managed to get a coach fired following a season-opening loss.
That is the fate of Edward Waters coach Greg Ruffin, who lost to Deion Sanders’ Jackson State team 53-0 in the season opener this FCS season.
Edward Waters College is based out of Jacksonville. News of Ruffin’s dismissal was first reported by Cole Pepper of News4Jax.
Ruffin had been the head coach at Edward Waters since 2018. He leaves the school with an overall record of 5-18 following the loss to Jackson State. Ruffin took over the program following a winless 2017 campaign.
