LSU’s coaching search has been centered around Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher since Ed Orgeron was fired; however, Fisher has stated multiple times that he’s staying in College Station. Remember, athletic director Scott Woodward hired Fisher at Texas A&M before being hired at LSU.

Other top candidates such as Mel Tucker (Michigan State), Luke Fickell (Cincinnati) and James Franklin (Penn State) have all decided to remain at their current schools and are off the market. Tucker and Franklin received huge raises to make that decision.

College football insider Pete Thamel calls LSU’s search “the biggest mystery and potential domino.”

“Where LSU goes if it’s not Fisher is the biggest mystery hovering over the carousel,” Thamel wrote in his latest coaching carousel column.

Thamel also wrote that Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops could be the Tigers fallback plan if other candidates like Louisiana’s Billy Napier and Iowa State’s Matt Campbell are both gone by Monday.

With the regular season coming to a close Saturday, several dominoes will fall Sunday and Monday on new coaching hires. Athletic Directors are pushing to make quick hires before December 15th’s Early Signing Period.
